Job Description

INTRODUCTION

Under the supervision of the ADON-DOC, the Medical Assistant Lead is required to perform all duties of the Medical Assistant and functions as the resource person to the non-licensed staff. The Medical Assistant Lead will also act as a liaison between management and staff. The Medical Assistant Lead requires a variety of skills, including but limited to: medical supply, medication and equipment ordering, data collection, medical assistant training, report any personnel issues, and provides clinical Medical Assistant expertise.

MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Leads with a servant leadership model of care.
  • Stocks clinic supplies
  • Inventories medical, family planning, and vaccine/vaccine supplies and keeps track of ordering
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds when held
  • Acts as a preceptor and completes the competency tool for newly hired Medical Assistants
  • Serves as a resource for nursing and site leadership providing input and participating in pilot-projects.
  • Provides leadership to medical assistants on clinical operations in the patient care setting including monitoring and evaluation of Unity policies and procedures, clinical processes and outcomes.
  • Serves as liaison between health center leadership and Medical Assistants staff.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Nursing on a daily basis for center operations and problem solving, and demonstrates the ability to resolve problems.
  • Monitors clinical processes and documentation for completion and accuracy.
  • Assists in the Quality Improvement site audit process
  • Collaborates with clinical team and oversees and implements Medical Assistant role on pre-visit planning care coordination.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant program with diploma.
  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Current BLS + AED CPR certification.
  • Two years of experience as a Medical Assistant.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated knowledge and execution of MA function, tasks, and workflow.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in training and precepting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
  • Willingness to articulate Unity's mission through his/her work.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The position reports directly to the ADON on day to day operations.

GUIDELINES

The position follows OSHA standards of safety and universal precautions and Unity policies and procedures.

PERSONAL CONTACTS

The position requires contact with staff at all levels throughout the organization. There are also external organization relationships that may be a part of the work of this individual.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The position may be required to walk throughout the health center on a daily basis, efficiently moving from job skill to job skill.
  • Assisting patients with mobility difficulties, walking, bending, stooping and lifting up to 30 lbs, sitting, and standing are all required.
  • Must be physically able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. Be able to bend, lift, and carry files from one location to another.
  • Must have visual acuity and the ability to differentiate colors, and sustain long periods of computer usage.
  • The office environment may be stressful with multiple, time-sensitive tasks to be accomplished within a short period of time.
  • Must be able to work any time of the day, independently with minimal supervision, be capable of making sound business decisions, and be detail oriented, alert and self-motivated.
  • Must be able to effectively manage difficult situations, staff, and customers.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS

Although the position is assigned a specific shift this position may be assigned alternate shifts to address the needs of Unity Health Care.

RISKS

The position involves everyday risk and discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings, training rooms, and other UHC health Care Sites. The work area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. All medical services shall be provided according to medically accepted community standards of care. The employee shall provide evidence of a recent (within the past twelve (12) months) health assessment that includes a PPD and/or chest x-ray results.
