Job Description

The Director Principal Kellar School manages, evaluates and supervises the administrative operation and functioning of the school consistent with state, federal and local regulatory bodies and the philosophy, mission, values and goals of Inova Kellar Center. Serves as a leader on the Leadership Committee and participates on local community and state committees representing Inova Kellar Center in the Educational and Mental Health communities.

The Kellar School is a private, therapeutic special education facility for children with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities or other health impairments that interfere with their ability to be successful in a public school setting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees assigned department or functional area to ensure it is performing effectively, which may include but not limited to, preparing and implementing business strategy to achieve the organization's goals, ensuring legal compliance, communicating and collaborating with stakeholders, managing employment decisions and contributions of supporting team members, and managing departmental budget and fiscal success.
  • Supervises the implementation of the treatment program(s) coprogram coordinating materials and staff to provide efficient, effective care from intake through aftercare for patients and their families.
  • Responsible for reviewing, interviewing, and determining appropriateness for coordinating student admissions.
  • Monitors the quality and timely development of lesson plans and IEPs.
  • Ensures compliance with all state and federal laws, policies and civil regulations.
  • Administers master agreements with stakeholders and local educational agencies.
  • Assumes responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of students, employees and visitors through established procedures that create and maintain attractive, organized, functional, healthy, clean, and safe facilities, with proper attention to the visual, acoustic and temperature.
  • Ensures that student records are complete and current and storage complies with regulatory requirements.
  • Assumes responsibility for school transportation fleet and ensures compliance with all legal requirements.
  • Develops strategies to recruit new students and maintain current students.
  • Provides senior leadership and guidance to the Leadership Committee on all educational and school-related regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Participates in the identification, design, implementation and evaluation of research initiatives of the Center when indicated.
  • Communicates frequently with parent(s)/guardians regarding student performance, behavioral/emotional status and gains and home-to-school issues as evidenced by at least quarterly contact.
  • Supervises the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes (teaching, as duties allow) on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure - Post Graduate Professional License (or abilitiy to obtain within 3 months of start date)
  • Experience - 2 years of experience in curriculum development and knowledge of special education services for children with Emotional Disabilities and or Learning Disabilities
  • Education - Master's Degree in Education (special education or administration preferred)
