AARP's Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. Across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, ICM manages AARP's reputation, drives engagement and member growth, and showcases AARP's mission and value through one, integrated voice.

The Integrated Communications Strategy Director is responsible for coordinating and integrating the efforts of various business units within the organization to develop multichannel communications strategies that drive engagement, membership, and shape the organization's image in the marketplace. This role specifically focuses on overseeing consumer-focused communications campaigns aimed at helping older consumers save money, budget their expenses, and pay down debt. This Communications Director also collaborates with the Ad Council on the "This is Pretirement" campaign. The Director is responsible for developing comprehensive multichannel communications plans, overseeing their implementation, and measuring their impact. They also play a key role in developing messaging related to Social Security, savings, planning, and debt, ensuring message alignment across the organization. Additionally, the Director is instrumental in the annual enterprise planning process and manages a substantial multi-million budget to execute plans throughout the year.


Responsibilities

  • Develops multichannel communications plans for new and existing initiatives, programs and offerings to reach key target audiences, oversee implementation and measure results. Creates and updates messaging for all initiatives, programs and offerings and ensure enterprise-wide alignment.
  • Establishes annual communications priorities and the communications calendar for the enterprise. Identifies and mitigates brand risk.
  • Collaborate with content teams to develop written and visual content that will resonate with target audience and drive relevance for the organization.
  • Vets content with experts from across the enterprise to ensure accuracy and message alignment.
  • Collaborates with Brand to develop appropriate paid media material to promote messages and shape the marketplace. Collaborates with Social Media teams to amplify messages, promote programs and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience.
  • Strong collaboration skills with proven leadership ability.
  • Track record of leading large, complex projects from conception to completion.
  • Demonstrated expertise in communications related to personal savings and managing finances.
  • Expertise in the issues and challenges related to Social Security.
  • Experience in working in a matrixed environment and managing a matrixed team.
  • Strategic mindset and experience in developing annual and long-term strategic plans, goal setting, and measurement..
  • Experience developing and managing a multi-million dollar budget.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
