The Inova Well Health Coaching program is looking for a PRN Health and Wellness Coach to join our team to support Inova team members and corporate clients. This role is hybrid located in Northern Virginia, Monday-Friday with normal business hours.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Join our innovative Inova Well Health Coaching team at Inova Health System.

PRN Health & Wellness Coach position will work closely with health coaching Inova team members and corporate clients in a well-being setting. We are looking for a passionate health coach excited to promote well-being in various capacities. The coaching position will involve one-on-one and group coaching, wellness workshops, seminars, content creation, team building and work-site wellness efforts. A background in dietetics, exercise physiology, behavior change, work-site wellness and/or psychology is preferred. Certified Health Coach credentialing is required and NBC-HWC licensing is preferred.

The Inova Well team is the wellness department for Inova Health System team members and one of the leading corporate wellness providers for Northern Virginia and beyond. As a Health and Wellness Coach, you will provide safe and evidence-based coaching in a comprehensive and systematic manner. To help achieve our mission, you will integrate your knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of the clients throughout the continuum of care. You will act as a motivator and educational resource for the client using various skills, including motivational interviewing, problem solving, education, self-management and goal setting. Above all, you will help the client to co-create a personalized wellness plan and will assist with monitoring and adjusting the plan as necessary to achieve the best quality health outcomes, ensuring that the client's values guide the coaching experience. Having respect for and an understanding of other disciplines is expected, and the health and wellness coach will operate solely within their scope of practice with appropriate referrals and collaboration with other multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrating leadership skills in decision making and problem solving is of vital importance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 health coaching to Inova team members, their spouses or partners, and corporate/community clients
  • Cultivate client empowerment using coaching skills and competencies within a Motivational Interviewing framework
  • Partner with clients to co-create a personalized care plan, including concrete SMART goals, and assist with monitoring and adjusting the plan as necessary to achieve the best quality health outcomes
  • Support clients in assessing both potential barriers and strengths towards achieving health goals
  • Diligently track client's progress and provide ongoing feedback, support, and encouragement, troubleshooting and adapting their wellness plan as needed per their motivations and life circumstances
  • Document client's progress in dedicated HIPAA-compliant platform, while safeguarding client Protected Health Information
  • Ability to coach clients in person as well as virtually, using video-based platform
  • Ability to create a strong social presence within workgroups and build trusting and respectful relationships with team members/departments through positive interactions, providing service, and maintaining team member privacy and confidentiality
  • Maximize engagement of team member health and wellness-related activities via efficient and effective virtual and face-to-face interactions
  • Actively promotes team member participation in Inova Well-based and site-specific health and wellness activities, and serves as lead and role-model by participating as appropriate
  • Provide virtual and on-site wellness education, programming, presentations, seminars, workshops and well-being/team building retreats
  • Excellent oral communication, customer service and social networking skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity with ease and confidence
  • Ability to garner support from administrators, department leaders and peer social leaders to support engagement of team member well-being
  • Ability to conduct non-invasive biometric measures (body composition, blood pressure, etc.) according to protocol in a variety of settings, including public settings; and provide care and maintenance of the required equipment
  • Reviews health risk assessment and biometric screening results with team members and supports them in selecting risk-appropriate wellness activities and/or lifestyle improvement interventions
  • Works within their professional scope of practice and refers out to other healthcare providers as needed; will not prescribe or diagnose for medical, emotional or mental issues, interpret lab results or suggest treatments or medication of any kind, unless formally trained, licensed and credentialed to do so
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and ability to learn additional computer-based documentation skills
  • Responsible for care of the computer and protection of personal health information as required by HIPAA
  • Professional certification in area of expertise
  • Must pass The National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) Exam within 24 months of hire
  • Develops and maintains competence in the use of health coaching skills and earns progressive certifications in each lifestyle domain
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of site-specific, Inova Health System and community-based health and wellness resources

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the health and wellness coaching sector, one-on-one coaching and health promotion (open to recent grad/recently certified if qualified)
  • Knowledge of client-centered counseling approach that highlights nonjudgmental empathic interaction and collaborative development and implementation of behavior change
  • Background in dietetics/nutrition, exercise physiology, behavior change, health education, counseling and/or psychology is preferred
  • Work-site wellness experience preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in health and wellness field from an accredited college. Preferably exercise science/physiology, dietetics, psychology.

Certification:

  • Health coaching certification from an accredited, National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) approved health coaching program (i.e. Wellcoaches, Duke Integrative, ACE)

National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) highly preferred
