Job Description

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) has an opening for a Project Manager to serve as a Task Lead (TL). The Task Lead will manage task orders and personnel on an engineering contract at NASA GSFC.

  • The Task Lead provides project direction to multiple tasks within a science instrument and/or satellite hardware project area.
  • The TL is responsible for technical, administrative, and cost performance for tasks. The TL will be trained, if necessary, to oversee development of task plans specifying goals, strategy, staffing, scheduling, and allocation of available resources.
  • The TL budgets, monitors, and controls aspects of task performance to ensure that all projects and tasks are accomplished within the prescribed schedule and cost parameters of the overall contract.
  • The TL interfaces with NASA customers to capture project requirements, obtain feedback on performance, and works with one or more Group Leads in managing staff and hardware development efforts.
  • The TL directly supervises technical staff.
  • The TL reports to the Group Lead on contract matters, ensures that all deliverables are met, and is responsible for all aspects of quality control in assigned tasks.
  • This role is located onsite in Greenbelt, MD. Onsite support is required, teleworking on a Hybrid basis may be available as customer/SSAI requirements allow.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, math, or physical sciences discipline and 7 years of professional experience in an engineering or technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • US Citizenship is required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2 years of management/leadership experience (project planning, variance analysis and reporting, personnel selection and management, and status monitoring and reporting).
  • Experience in the management/leadership of space-related engineering, technological, or scientific development, and knowledge of a broad spectrum of disciplines involved in engineering and technology support.
  • Understanding of the full hardware development life cycle including requirements development, design, development, and integration and testing
  • Experience in the NASA contracting environment, and NASA engineering programs is strongly desired
  • Familiarity with generation of procurement documentation including purchase requests, sole source justifications, and price analysis.
  • Masters degree in Project Management, Systems Engineering, or Business Administration.

The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
