Job Summary:

The Power Engineer II ensures continued operation of equipment housed in and supported by the central plant equipment, while maintaining all related equipment to assure environmental and operational control throughout all Mary Washington Healthcare facilities. This position provides guidance to Power Engineer I Associates, and additional duties include vendor coordination and plant related systems project management.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Conducts tests on related equipment and documents findings for statistical record to comply with regulatory requirements. Conducts alarm analysis of plant related equipment and systems.
  • Schedules third party responses to repair activities identified through maintenance analysis and within the building automation system.
  • Oversees the Preventative Maintenance Program in the MWHC plant locations, in accordance with Joint Commission regulations, which includes monitoring the timely and efficient return of work order requests. Monitors preventative maintenance and unscheduled work order completion.
  • Monitors periodic reports and analyses regarding progress or adverse trends. Recommends appropriate action plan, as needed.
  • Monitors plant asset inventories for accuracy and creates maintenance tasks within the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Assesses performance of chemical feed systems to the boilers and cooling towers to ensure equipment operation efficiency, equipment safety and environmental safety.
  • Verifies preventive and corrective maintenance is performed on boilers, chillers, medical gas systems, air compressors, D.A. tanks, and all other associated equipment supported by physical plants.
  • Evaluates fuel burn and emission readings for semiannual reports to the EPA.
  • Recommends improvements to existing systems and replacements that will increase efficiency.
  • Oversees orientation and training of new plant engineers, to include safety in-service in accordance with OSHA Safety Standards.
  • Contributes to revising standards, procedures, protocols, and CBOTs. Participates in Joint Commission preparation/readiness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Graduate from a technical school or state sponsored apprenticeship program required.
  • Journeyman HVAC license required at hire. Master HVAC license required within one year.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in HVAC in a hospital setting required.
  • Acceptable driving record, a valid driver's license, and meets the criteria for Mary Washington Healthcare's Driver Suitability.
