General Responsibilities
Bring your academic, industry, and personal experience to Howard Community College as a part-time adjunct faculty in adult Continuing Education in the areas Personal Enrichment and 60+ courses. The need for part-time instructors is anticipated to continue to rise and the division is recruiting qualified applicants with a variety of skills and proven teaching ability for the following categories of classes:

  • Art and Photography - Studio, Conservation, History, Artists
  • Baltimore, Maryland, and Howard County - History, Writers, Museums, Travel, Gardens, Site visits
  • Crafts - Sewing, Knitting, Embroidery, Crochet, Stained Glass
  • Entertainment - Plays, Broadway, Films
  • Personal Finance - Investing, Budgeting, Wealth Management
  • Games - Bridge, Chess, Role Play, Mah Jongg
  • History and Culture - United States, Different countries and time periods, Genealogy, Philosophy, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology
  • Life Skills - Downsizing and Organizing, Decorating, Cooking, Computer Skills, Travel Planning
  • Literature and Writing - Novels, Short Stories, Classics, Historical, Writers, Mythology, Books to Movies, Communications, Journalism
  • Music -
    • Instrumental - piano, percussion, strings, winds, brass
    • Vocal - choir, opera
    • Composition
    • Technology
    • Private lessons - all instrumental and vocal categories, individual and group
  • Nature and Outdoors - State Parks, Walking Tours, Gardening
  • Wellness and Fitness - Yoga, Dance, Managing Stress, Flexibility, Core Strength, Exercise

Work Performed
Instructors plan and implement curriculum for class(es). Develop or update a course syllabus. Instructors are responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment and complying with HCC employment policies and guidelines.

Other Knowledge Required
Background and expertise in subject area, experience teaching, or training of adults or targeted audience. Academic degrees or professional credentials preferred. Some subject areas may also require specific certifications and levels of experience/training. References required.
